For the second year, Nantucket Community School, in partnership with Upper Cape Cod Tech, will be offering 10 Nantucket residents the opportunity to complete in-community training toward their journeyman electrician license, free of charge. In addition, participants will receive a textbook and other supplies (work boots, tools, and tool belts), as well as a stipend upon completion.
This funding was secured through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s (MassCEC) Climate-Critical Workforce Training, Equipment & Infrastructure Grant.
“This program is a win for workforce development and a win for our local economy,” said Brian Lenane, Nantucket Community School Adult Education Coordinator. “It shows what’s possible when funding meets collaboration.”
Last year’s scholarship recipients are now employed by electrical contractors on the island.
To apply, students must be 18 years or older by the start of class (August 16), have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license (or be in progress), ability to work in the US, and a high school diploma/GED (or GED in progress completed by the end of the program).
Nantucket Community School provides four levels of Journeyman training. Classes resume on Saturdays at the Nantucket Community School 56 Centre Street campus starting on August 16. Students can register online through Upper Cape Tech using this link.
