This week, the Nantucket Elementary School gym was transformed into a dental office for a visit from the Polished Teeth team.
•
The group of dental professionals provides portable dental healthcare to organizations across Massachusetts. The Nantucket Community School has been partnering with Polished Teeth for many years to bring these essential services to the Nantucket community.
•
The Polished program allows children to experience the atmosphere of a dentist in a comfortable, child-friendly environment. Services included a dental exam, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, dental health education, and a toothbrush and toothpaste for 200 school-aged children, in addition to 50 preschoolers on Wednesday evening.
•
We are so grateful to Ellen Gould and her team for another visit with our Nantucket students!
The staff at NCS has so much to be thankful for during this season of Thanksgiving, one of which is the many community organizations that offer their time, resources, and open spaces to Nantucketers young and old.
•
Today, we joined Neil Foley, Interpretive Education Coordinator/Ecologist at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation, for a guided tour of their Masquetuck Reservation property, located at the end of Quaise Pastures Road.
•
Bordering West Polpis Harbor, this 13.5-acre parcel contains a diverse collection of natural areas. Neil taught us all about Masquetuck’s beaches, salt marshes, freshwater bogs, shrublands, and hardwood forests during an hour-long walk through each of these habitats.
•
A very big thank you to Neil and the NCF staff for your continued partnership with NCS. We are so grateful and can’t wait to tour the next property!
The Nantucket Community School has partnered with The Residences at Sherburne Commons, the Town of Nantucket, and the Landmark House to bring Memory Cafés to the island on the second Tuesday of each month.
•
A Memory Café is a welcoming place for individuals with Alzheimer`s and any form of dementia or other brain disorders and also includes the caregiver for a shared experience. Cafés can be helpful for people with all types of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and include various activities, like music and art.
•
These photos are from our first meeting in October. We will hold our second Memory Café tomorrow, November 14, from 10-11:30am at Sherburne Commons, 40 Sherburne Commons Road.
•
For more information, please email or call Gennifer Costanzo at costanzog@npsk.org or 508-221-2534.

Many of you may recognize Meghan Tormay, who has taught Irish Step at the Nantucket Community School since 2017! We are so lucky to have her!🍀
•
Miss Meghan moved to Nantucket in 2013 to work at Nantucket Cottage Hospital as a nurse for Dr. Butterworth and expected to live and work on the island for a year or so. However, her love for Nantucket grew as she became invested in the year-round community and 10 years later, she’s still here!
•
Meghan grew up Irish Dancing at the O’Shea Chaplin Academy of Irish Dance from the age of 4 until she went to nursing school, and she competed at Nationals and the World Championships.
•
Meghan said she is thrilled to welcome Miss Maggie and Miss Jess to the Irish Step program this year, and that it is important to her that the program continues to grow. She hopes her son, Curren, can join the “Lads class” in 3 years!
Halloween celebrations started early at the Nantucket Community School!🎃👻
•
On Friday, October 27, we had not one but TWO Halloween-themed events: the Nantucket Aquatics Blue and White Dual Meet, and our Gymnastics Halloween Show!🏊♀️🏊♂️🤸♀️🤸
•
Friday`s swim meet was open to all swimmers of Nantucket Aquatics, and was jam-packed with fun-filled intersquad competitions, relays, and races.
•
Later that afternoon, coach Jazmine Kasperzyk`s gymnastics students took to the beam, bars, vault, and floor in their costumes, putting us all into the Halloween spirit as we headed into the spooky holiday weekend!
•
Thank you to everyone who participated, and to our amazing staff and volunteers who helped make both of these events possible!👏🙌
