YES! When your student obtains their permit, driving lessons may begin as long as their parent/guardian has attended the required two-hour parent class in the last five years.
The next mandatory parent class will be held on Wednesday, September 16, from 6:00-8:00pm in the Nantucket Intermediate School cafeteria.
Per a new Massachusetts state mandate, beginning on May 1st, 2019, parents/guardians must attend the required two-hour parent class before their student begins any driving lessons with our certified instructors. Parent classes are offered at least once per classroom training session.
*Students will not be provided with in-car hours until the parent class has been completed by a guardian.
If you have your learner’s permit, paid for your driving time, and would like to schedule driving hours, contact Amy VanderWolk at vanderwolka@npsk.org or 508-228-7285 x1575.
Click here to learn how to apply for learner’s permit through the Massachusetts RMV.
When asked, you have an option to pay just for the permit for $30 or for all three: permit, road test, and license (good for 5 years) for $115.
To request a JOL completion certificate, email drivered@dot.state.ma.us. Include the driver’s name and license number.
With the completion certificate you may be eligible for a discount for your car insurance.
The Nantucket Community School Driving School is a private entity, not the State of Massachusetts RMV.
In the Car
The Nantucket Community School reserves the right to revisit and modify all limitations on sign-ups based on volume and availability. We will do our best to offer as many lessons each day as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to navigate driving lessons.
You must have your permit in the car when attending your driving hour.
Scheduling depends on both student and instructor availability. Most student drivers book no more than one hour per week, though exceptions occur. Per state regulations, students may not spend more than two hours in the vehicle per day.
Students will be charged a fee of $40 for “no-shows” or lessons canceled within 24 hours of their scheduled lesson. This fee must be paid before your next lesson.
Adult Drivers
Please make sure you have created an account in our registration system by clicking here. If you are interested in signing up for adult driving hours, please contact Amy VanderWolk at vanderwolka@npsk.org or 508-228-7285 x1575.
Adult driving lessons are being offered at a rate of $85 per hour. You must have your learner’s permit to qualify to take driving lessons.

The car is available for road tests only after the instructor determines the student is ready. A fee applies for use of the car, and the Nantucket Community School sponsors the test.
