YES! When your student obtains their permit, driving lessons may begin as long as their parent/guardian has attended the required two-hour parent class in the last five years.
Per a new Massachusetts state mandate, beginning on May 1st, 2019, parents/guardians must attend the required two-hour parent class before their student begins any driving lessons with our certified instructors. Parent classes are offered at least once per classroom training session.
If you have your learner’s permit, paid for your driving time, and would like to schedule driving hours, contact Denise Nesselrodt at nesselrodtd@npsk.org or 508-228-7285 x1575.
In the Car
The Nantucket Community School reserves the right to revisit and modify all limitations on sign-ups based on volume and availability. We will do our best to offer as many lessons each day as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to navigate driving lessons.
You must have your permit in the car when attending your driving hour.
The number of hours students may schedule correlates to the instructor and student availability. A student driver is rarely able to schedule more than one hour per week, but it does happen. Regulations state that student drivers may not spend more than two hours in the vehicle per day.
Students will be charged a fee of $40 for “no-shows” or lessons canceled within 24 hours of their scheduled lesson. This fee must be paid before your next lesson.
Adult Drivers
Please make sure you have created an account in our registration system by clicking here. If you are interested in signing up for adult driving hours, please contact Denise Nesselrodt at nesselrodtd@npsk.org or 508-228-7285 x1575.
Adult driving lessons are being offered at a rate of $80 per hour. You must have your learner’s permit to qualify to take driving lessons.

The car is only available for students once the instructor deems the student is ready to take the road test. There is a fee to use the car, and the Nantucket Community School sponsors the test.
